A Week of Halloween

The weather is getting colder and the ghosts and ghouls are starting to come out so spend your study break doing something special for this Halloween week. There's so many ways to celebrate and a number of activities going on around campus to choose from.

Horror Movie Fun
I know I'm not the only scary movie buff out there so for all of us thrill seekers, have a horror movie marathon with your friends to get everyone in the Halloween spirit. There is a scary movie showing in my room every night til Halloween and all of my friends are having so much fun seeing the iconic and most bone chilling movies.  Last night was Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and I think tonight will be a more recent thriller like Paranormal Activity 2. So finish your homework early, grab a redbox or netflix movie, and let the fun begin!

Campus Craziness
If you don't want to be held up in your room scared to pieces, then surely you can find something around campus that you may find appealing. On Wednesday, Trinity Pikes are hosting their annual Heaven and Hell party. Costumes are heavily encouraged so don't forget your pitchfork or your halo.  Another fun activity happening around campus is the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  It is a rock musical play put on by Trinity students based on the iconic 1975 movie.  It is quite the experience that you don't want to miss.  Some other things happening around Trinity are the Scary Storytelling Contest and the trick-or-treaters that visit the resident halls. So stock up on candy corns and start planning your costumes because this week will be filled with Halloween fun!

Helpin' Out and Havin' Fun

At some point, we all get wrapped up in school, work and ourselves, and we forget about how important it is to give back to the community.  I say, kill two birds with one stone and take time away to involve yourself in some of the following activities that benefit great organizations

NIGHTMARE ON GRAYSON

Get in the Halloween spirit and visit san Antonios finest and spookiest event of the season.  Nightmare on Grayson is a legendary haunted house that is guaranteed to scare you socks off.  The generous people of Nightmare on Grayson have teamed up with Gamma Chi Delta to raise money for the annual Concert for the Cure fundraiser to support the American Cancer Association.  So go out and buy a ticket for one of the most infamous Halloween experiences and support the cause!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

If this does not sound like your idea of fun and you'd like to have a more direct impact on you community, look no further than Habitat for Humanity.  Habitat for Humanity is an organization that build decent and simple houses in hopes to eventually get rid of poverty housing and homelessness.  You can volunteer with a group of friends or go alone and make some new ones!

Whether you decide to get involved in these great opportunities or stop by the local pound and volunteer to take care of puppies for a couple of hours, giving back to the community has never been more fun.  take some time to get educated about all of the organizations out there and all the easy ways you can help and have fun doing it.

Roommate Relations

A word of advice: keep good relations with your roommate. Here's a few ideas that you should mull over while sharing your little space with that special someone.

STAY FRESH FRESH
The last thing you need is a room that smells like a gym sock or like last nights Indian take out.  Take a trip to Walmart and pick out a scent that you and your roommate find enticing.  Febreeze and a candle always do the trick for me.  Plus, nothing says roommate love like an Island Nectar candle.

TIDY UP
DONT be hard to live with. This is not ok.
Do you ever catch your roommate shooting evil glares at the flood of clothes by your bed or the mess of hair products on the bathroom counter?  Do everyone a favor and tidy up a bit.  Every Sunday my roommate and I clean our room from ceiling fan to floor.  If you aren't feeling a scheduled clean up date every week,  then try taking a few minutes to straighten things that might be intruding on your roommates space. You will see that a clean room will help you focus, find that 80's jumpsuit you've been searching for, and most importantly, keep your sweet roomie at ease.

DO befriend your roomie. Its
much easier to live this way.
BE NICE
Here's something to practice now and for the rest of your life. COURTESY! Whatever you do, never bad mouth your roomie.  Just because your roomie may have an outrageously amousing habit doesn't mean you should tell everyone in your hall.  Also, don't be afraid to have those hard, potentially awkward, conversations.  If you want your roommate to stop bringing unwanted guests back to the room, say boys, girls or stay trinity cats, dont be scared to say something. Ya'll will get along much better if you are honest with each other.

It sounds simple enough, but sometimes the smallest problems can be the downfall of a happy room.  So stay fresh, friendly, and somewhat tidy, and hopefully you'll be smooth sailing with roomie on deck.

Stress Less

It's the start of a new school year and many of us feel the pressure to keep motivated on our school work and raise those GPA's! All of this pressure can make life a little stressful, which can counteract your academic efforts. Here are some stress relievers that never fail.

USE YOUR PLANNER
We all got a cute Trinity planner at the beginning of the year and believe it or not, they are such a good idea. You don't need the added stress of being surprised by a test or paper that snuck up on you. Stay on top of your game and write every assignment, project, meeting, social event, and test in your planner or calendar. The Trinity planner also has events happening around campus so you'll never miss another nacho hour again (and nacho's are a great stress reliever).

HAVE FUN
If you lock yourself on the fourth floor of the library, you might turn into an anti-social hermit. So here's some advice, save some time for things that you like doing.  Go to the gym.  Exercise helps release endorphins and increase the amount of oxygen that gets to your brain, thus increasing happiness and mental capabilities. If you have a hobby, take some time to do something for yourself. Another idea is to take short study breaks to finish short tasks that are simple and rewarding. Example: painting your nails with your best gals or beating your roommate in FIFA.

So leave the stress behind!  The simplest way to prevent the stresses of Trinity are to stay informed about all of your responsibilities and then making time in your schedule for things you enjoy. So start filling in your planner and don't forget to save some time for a little glitter.
